The participation of the entire community in assisting the government’s programme for food security is very much needed. Without their participation it is impossible for the programme to run. It is for this reason that the contribution of Papua Muda Inspiratif/PMI (Inspirational Papua Youth) in helping food security in Papua is highly appreciated. Moreover, they were able to harvest 16.1 tonnes of corn on 7.5 hectares of land in Jayapura.
According to Indonesian Student and Millennial Alliance (AMMI) Coordinator Nurkhasanah, the programme, which includes Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH), can improve Papua’s human resources and food security.
“I admire and appreciate the PMI. The young Papuans are so productive and can harvest dozens of tonnes of corn.” “This further strengthens Papua’s readiness to become an area with good food security. Because in Papua there is not only wheat, but also rice, corn is ready to become the basis of food security,” she continued. She considered the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) a community that can mobilise the economy, culture, and wisdom of Papua in national and international showcases.
PYCH was initiated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to accommodate the young generation of Papua. Indeed, the purpose of PYCH is clear since President Jokowi initiated it to accommodate the ideas, ideas, creativity, and innovation of young people so that it can have a positive impact on the development of human resources (HR) in Papua.
“No matter how small the change, it will begin to have a big influence for a better change.” Seeing the impact and contribution of PMI in revitalising agriculture, he hopes that other local governments will utilise idle land. It will be reused as agricultural land as a means of cultivating crops to meet the needs and availability of food for the community.
“Of course, we hope that the Inspirational Papua Youth’s example can be followed in every region in Indonesia. Seeing the success of Papua, which provides many opportunities for the younger generation, we encourage local governments to create inspirational youth,” she said.
