Open Letter to Benny Wenda

Dear sir,

For all these years you claimed your struggle is freedom of people of West Papua. You claimed that Papuans are still under colonial power, oppressed, and ruthlessly controlled by Indonesian government. You expressed your anger seeing and witnessing the genocide conducted by Indonesian toward Papuans. Therefore, you will continue your struggle and fight to get rid Indonesian from the land belong to Papuans.

By then, as part of your struggle, you and your group called OPM engaged Indonesian in any way that may serve your goal. The group ambushed and killed fellow Papuans and burning their houses. Even not long ago they butchered innocent civilian workers of road and construction projects and were rationalized as a necessity.

With the help of your supporters, you claimed that Indonesian is illegally colonized Papua. You spread your movement internationally and expecting sympathy from international community for your struggle. And lately you asked all Papuans to boycott the Indonesian election because it’s an election for Indonesian not for Papuans. And you also claimed that appeal to boycott the election has succeeded.

Let check all your claimed one by one, whether your argument that your interest is the welfare of people of Papua is valid or not and can be supported by facts.

  1. You said that Papuan people have been subjected to human rights violations yet there are 191 officials and 56 civilians fell victims to OPM’s crimes since 2009
  2. You claimed that Papuan boycotted the 2019 General Election yet Papua has more than 80% turnout voters in 2019 General Election. One of the highest number when compared to other provinces in Indonesia.
  3. You said that you’ve handed petition by 1,8 million Papuans to the UN Decolonisation Commission but again it’s confirmed as another lie.

And now let see what the government of Indonesia have been done in Papua

  1. 854 schools with more than 157.000 students in 2016
  2. At least 30 hospitals and 394 clinics
  3. At least 4.330 km of Trans-Papua road has been connected

To compare all these number, objectively, anyone can see that whatever the argument you and OPM try to convey to the world, will fail since almost all of them are baseless and are not supported by facts. It is that your interest is hunger and lust for power just like ant thugs anywhere in the world.

But still, among all arguments that rally interest me most is your keen focus on Papua as a race. Personally, I cannot believe anyone still continue to believe in racism. It is an ideology that is invalid and morally wrong. No one can give any excuse for believing that humanity can be divided into certain category without destroying and degrading humanity themselves.  History has proven that racism only creating hatred, misery in the ugliest and dirtiest form of cruelty and yet you still cling on to it.

You, Mr. Benny Wenda, as Papuan have experienced how degrading it was being treated the way the European colonial treated people in Papua. And there you are, now you use the same stands as what the European has thought you. Shame on you Mr. Benny Wenda. For your personal gain, you are willing to sacrifice the innocent, whether they are Papuan or fellow human being.

Papua’s Christian Issues

Its always the same song they sing, if not about race then they use religion. Whatever works for them.

They really out of touch with the reality that while Indonesia predominantly Muslim, but Christian, Buddhist and Hindu and other religions are already existed longer and much longer in many parts of Indonesia then in Papua.

Do they know that cathedral in Jakarta and Semarang are among the oldest in Southeast Asia? Have they heard about Borobudur temple and hundreds of temple in Java that still been used by Buddhist pilgrim that came from all over Asia from Thailand to China and Japan?

Furthermore, talking about Islam and Christianity in Papua, Benny Wenda and his thugs forget that among the first missionaries arrived in the northern parts of Papua, they was helped and used boats and ships provided by Muslim sultanate of Ternate.

Moreover, talking about numbers of Christians in Java, Sulawesi, Maluku, Sumatra, and almost other islands in Indonesia is thousands of not million larger than the number of christian in the whole Papua.

So there you go, if not calling pure Melanesian race which is also existed in a much larger number are in other islands, at least in 5 provinces, and now they try using religion to show their case.

These complete lies and absurdity is a reflection of Benny Wenda and his OPM thugs true color of which spreading nothing to Papuans except murders, terrors and disgusts.

What else to say? Non.

Benny Wenda – Master of Manipulation

As a foreigner, I travelled quite extensively to almost all the provinces in Indonesia, modern and busiest streets in Jakarta to remote islands in Sumbawa, Halmahera, Manokwari, Merauke, Jayapura to say the least. I am quite familiar with Indonesia’s good and bad sides. But this OPM and Benny Wenda has really taken my special attention for quite sometime. He reminds me of those champions of manipulation such as Mussolini, Hitler, Pol Pot and other notorious criminals in our history.

Of all what he and his band has done, his latest propaganda to boycott Indonesian election was, to put mildly, interesting and funny. Benny Wenda has been asking to boycott election in Indonesia as a part of his struggle for Papua’s independence. With all of murderous, kidnapping and other atrocities by his group under the per-text of fighting the oppressor, he and his man became the worst type of oppressor of all.

It sound as if Benny’s asking the most ridiculous demand to stop a process of 250 million people in their holding democracy and their hope for a better future. It is almost similar as an attempt to stop a person to stop his or her hope for a better future for their children.

Benny Wenda would not even understand the idea of how someone working hard tirelessly for making the world a better place. Personal blind ambition could create such wildest fantasy at the expense of others. Benny wenda is a kind of person who is willing to sacrifice anything for his interest. And ironically, he is somehow quite good in manipulating almost everyone, including his own people, the Papuans.

Human history is, from time to time, having to experience this lunatic adventures of a mad man like Benny Wenda. And now Benny Wenda is willing to sacrifice the Papuans for his wild adventures

My regards to all Indonesian.

Kim

A Letter for Mr. Wenda

I have read many articles written about West Papua, either written by the Indonesian Government, foreign writers and journalist, or written by Benny Wenda and his OPM friends.

I am Indonesian, and I am not going to tell you whether I am a Papuan or not, because first of all, it’s not important. Although I never really loved, cared nor hated OPM, but Mr. Wenda for me is quite interesting. He is Papuan, whom talked a lot about the welfare and care about Papuan but he lives in London.

Now, as an ordinary member of my village and town, a part of my large family and friends, I do care about the welfare of the people around me. I live with them, share almost everything with them, and most of all, I love them.

I traveled quite a lot lately, not only within Papua or other islands in Indonesia, but I’ve had the opportunity to travel  to other countries, and I saw a lot of things, and it has made me love my village and the people even more.

Now, I try to make a comparison about what Mr. Wenda said about Papua and Indonesia, and compare it with what the Indonesian have done in Papua.

First, you are talking about genocide. There you are… Mr. Wenda is lying to his teeth. Second, the destruction of Papua. If Mr. Wenda thinks that building road and highways almost 4000 km all over Papua is destruction, I think he is a lunatic. Building roads means a lot for the people, especially in remote areas around Papua. It will open isolated areas and reduce the price of goods. I heard that the president really cares about it. I know the Indonesian are bringing rocks from other islands because of lack of rocks in dense forests in many areas in Papua. They built schools, and I am part of one of them, I graduated from those schools.

What about you Mr. Wenda? What have you done for the Papuan, except for making yourself popular and living abroad, enjoying your popularity and maybe also a better life compared to us here in Papua?  I think you are a disgrace, for your family and Papuan as a whole. You chose to live in the mercy of strangers, and call yourself a warrior. No Mr. Wenda, you are a coward.

Mr. Wenda, have you heard the story about Mr. Kilion Manggara, a retired elementary school teacher who thanks to his hard work with the residents in his village managed to bring electricity through Solar Power Plant? Now, Amdui Village has been electrified from the Centralized Electric Plant with 30 kWp capacity for about 130 families in 103 homes. Yes, the government built the electricity plant, but it was him that made it possible by bringing the government’s attention to his village.

Meanwhile, You, Mr. Wenda, you are asking the whole world to take the focus on you, and for that, you are willing to do anything, including lying. For Papuan man, you are not considered as a man.

With all the bad things and mishaps of the Indonesian government, I choose them easy compared to you. At least the Indonesian are trying hard to take care and bring welfare for the Papuan, and I guess I cannot even possibly dream that it will come from you.

Mr. Wenda, sorry to say, but you are a loser. I love my family, I love Papua. I don’t think you even care about us. I can tell you hundreds stories, but I lost my appetite, it’s just because of you Mr. Wenda.

Sorong, March 2018
