President Joko Widodo inaugurated the terminal at Ewer Airport in Asmat Regency, South Papua Province on Thursday (6/7/2023). The President expressed hope that the airport will improve the economy of Asmat Regency. “By invoking the blessings and grace of God Almighty, I inaugurate Ewer Airport in Asmat Regency, South Papua Province,” Mr Widodo said as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel. “Praise and gratitude to God Almighty, Ewer Airport in Ewer Regency, South Papua Province which has been built today is ready to be utilised to meet the transportation needs of the people in Asmat Regency,” he said.
The Head of State said that the existence of the airport terminal is very important. This is because it can help connectivity between districts, provinces, and islands. In addition, the existence of the airport terminal accelerates the mobility of people and goods. “And it will open up isolation, will accelerate the delivery of logistics, and earlier I got a report that now, every week from Timika there have been 2 flights,” said Jokowi. “From Kamur there are four flights a week, and from Merauke there are four flights,” he said.
Therefore, according to the President, these developments will open up an increase in Asmat tourism. “And we hope that the economy in Asmat Regency, South Papua in general will improve and increase,” Jokowi said.
