The Regent of Biak Numfor Regency, Markus Oktovianus Mansembra, inaugurated the Biak Buddha Dharma Pagoda on Saturday (22/3/2025). This pagoda is expected to become a new religious tourism icon in the Biak Numfor region and a major attraction for tourists.
The inauguration marked an important milestone in the development of Buddhism in Biak Numfor and became a historic moment for the local Buddhist community. The five-story pagoda, standing 23 meters tall, majestically stands next to the Biak Vihara Buddha Dharma, equipped with a lightning rod at its peak.
In his speech, Regent Markus Oktovianus Mansembra expressed his appreciation and hopes for the inauguration of this pagoda.
“On behalf of the Biak Numfor Regency Government, as well as personally and on behalf of my family, I would like to congratulate and wish success on the inauguration of the Biak Buddha Dharma Pagoda,” he stated.
Furthermore, the Regent emphasized that this pagoda is a strategic step to develop the potential for religious tourism in Biak.
“The Buddha Dharma Pagoda in Biak will become one of the religious icons in Biak Numfor.” We will issue regulations to support this. Thank you to the management of Buddha Dharma Biak for their contributions,” he said.
In addition to being a place of worship, this pagoda is also expected to strengthen tolerance and harmony among religious communities in this region. Its presence introduces the cultural and spiritual wealth possessed by Biak.
The Chairman of the Buddha Dharma Foundation, Susanto Pirono, also expressed his joy at this inauguration.
“We are very happy.” The construction of this pagoda is our contribution to supporting tourism in Biak Numfor. We also extend our gratitude to the local government, especially the Regent of Biak Numfor, who has designated this pagoda as a religious tourism icon,” he said.

This inauguration was also attended by Buddhist religious leaders, the founder of the Buddha Dharma Foundation Susanto Pirono, members of the Biak Numfor Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, Army and Police leaders, the Acting Secretary of Biak, leaders of State-Owned and Regional-Owned Enterprises Biak, as well as local community leaders and Buddhist followers.
