The Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, stated that Lake Sentani, located in Jayapura Regency, can be one potential leading tourist destination. Therefore, he requested that the relevant departments immediately formulate a professional and sustainable tourism management strategy.
“I have toured Lake Sentani with the regional officials at the Papua Provincial Government to directly see what type of tourism is suitable to be developed in the area,” he said, quoted from Antara.
Ramses recounted that they boarded the ship through the Kalkhote tourist area, which is one of the tourist destinations typically used for the Lake Sentani Festival.
“Lake Sentani not only has extraordinary natural beauty, but it also has strong cultural values,” he said.
Therefore, they request that the relevant agencies, in this case, the Department of Culture and Tourism and others, must build communication and coordination with the Jayapura Regency Government to ensure that tourism here develops well.
“Thus, it can provide benefits to the surrounding community and support the local economy, especially in Jayapura Regency,” he said.
He added that the local government will continue to strive to improve tourism-supporting infrastructure and promote Lake Sentani to make it more widely known nationally and internationally.
“For that reason, the preparation of a more professional and sustainable tourism management strategy must be thoroughly prepared,” he said.
He explained that they want Lake Sentani to become one of the best tourism icons in Eastern Indonesia.
“With good management, this tourism can have a wide economic impact on the Papuan community,” he said.
