The Merauke Regional Government, through the Tourism and Creative Economy Office, officially launched the Pilot Category Tourism Village in the SINAI coastal area (from Sirapu to Anasai), which includes Urumb Village, Waninggap Nanggo Village, and Matara Village. The inauguration event took place at Sembe Beach, Urumb Village, marked by the pressing of a siren and the release of balloons by the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Merauke, Yermias Paulus Ruben Ndiken.
The Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Office of Merauke Regency, Benhur Rentandatu, stated that this launch is part of the local government’s commitment to developing local tourist destinations. “Last year, the Merauke Regent, Drs. Romanus Mbaraka, inaugurated four tourist villages in the border area, namely Wasur, Rawa Biru, Yanggandur, and Sota. This year, we are adding three more villages in the Sinai coastal area: Urumb, Waninggap Nanggo, and Matara,” said Benhur.
Benhur added that these seven villages are still in the initial stages, and his team will focus on designing programs that support the accelerated development of these destinations. “We want to ensure that the launched villages can grow into leading tourist destinations in Merauke Regency,” he said.
According to Benhur, these areas have great potential to attract tourists through their natural beauty, cultural richness, and various man-made tourist attractions that are being developed. “The hope is that tourists will be interested in enjoying all the beauty and unique experiences offered by these tourist villages,” he said. With this step, the Merauke Regional Government is committed to continuously developing the tourism and creative economy sectors as one of the drivers of the local economy and cultural preservation.
