Papuan Student from Biak Numfor Achieves International Recognition

A child from Biak named Esra Samuel Weyai, a seventh-grade student at SMP Negeri 1 Biak Kota, Papua, has made Indonesia proud on the international stage by winning a bronze medal at the 9th World Innovative Technology Challenge (WIT) 2024 held at Chonnam National University, Yeosu-si, South Korea. This prestigious competition is held on 1-4 November 2024.

Esra competed in the Coding Examples Junior category, and in this competition, Indonesia sent six students to participate, and the results were highly impressive.

The Indonesian team successfully brought home 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals. The bronze medal achievement by Esra Samuel Weyai is a testament to the capabilities of Indonesia’s young generation in the field of technology and innovation, especially for Papua’s youth, which is certainly a source of pride.

The Head of the Education and Culture Office of Biak Numfor, Kamarudin, expressed his pride that a child from Biak, Papua, could compete and achieve success at the international level.

“This is an invaluable experience and I hope that the study and development of skills in the field of technology can continue,” said Kamarudin, Monday (4/11/2024). “Esra’s achievement serves as motivation for all students to keep striving and excelling in their respective fields. We are proud of this achievement and hope Esra continues to inspire his classmates at school,” he said.

The World Innovative Technology Challenge 2024 is participated by various countries and is designed to hone the innovation capabilities and technological skills of the younger generation worldwide. Esra’s achievement is expected to inspire other students in Indonesia to continue pursuing excellence and developing their potential in the field of technology.

Kamarudin added that Esra Samuel Weyai, along with the entire Indonesian team, has proven that the nation’s youth are capable of competing on a global level, and may this achievement be a good start for the younger generation in Papua and Indonesia to continue innovating and contributing in the field of technology, and in any field that aligns with the interests and talents of the students.
