President Joko Widodo expressed his condolences for the legendary weightlifter from Papua, Raema Lisa Rumbewas, who died on Sunday (1/14/2024). This was conveyed by Jokowi through his official Instagram account, @jokowi. He hoped that the athlete’s services will continue to be remembered and serve as inspiration. “I express my condolences on the passing of Lisa Rumbewas. May the late Lisa have a glorious place at the side of God Almighty. I pray for the bereaved family to be granted strength and fortitude,” Jokowi posted on his Instagram account on Sunday.
“May her services as a sports hero always be remembered, and inspire Indonesian athletes,” continued Jokowi. The Head of State said Indonesia lost one of the nation’s best daughters with the death of Lisa. She was among the sportspeople who was tirelessly committed to making history for the country. Jokowi then remembered very well a number of achievements that Lisa had made during her life. “I remember very well, Lisa has brought renown to Indonesia with a number of very proud achievements,” said Jokowi. Lisa has won medals in three different Olympic Games, namely silver at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and the Athens Olympics in 2004, and bronze at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
In addition to three Olympic medals, Lisa Rumbewas also brought pride to Indonesia through various achievements in the world of weightlifting. Some of these achievements included winning a silver medal in the 53-kilogram event at the 2006 World Weightlifting Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Then, she won a bronze medal at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan in the 48-kilogram class. “Lisa was also able to collect medals in three different editions of the SEA Games, bronze at the 2003 Hanoi SEA Games, silver at the 2005 Manila SEA Games, and gold at the 2009 Vientiane SEA Games,” Jokowi explained. As previously reported, Raema Lisa Rumbewas died at the Jayapura Regional General Hospital (RSUD) at 03.00 Eastern Indonesia Time.
Lisa’s death has caused grief in the hearts of the people, especially Papua. This is due to Lisa’s numerous achievements.
