President Jokowi to inaugurate New Airports During Papua Working Visit

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will inaugurate two airports in Papua on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Following the readiness of the two airports that have been completed.

This was revealed by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi after reviewing the two airports. Namely, Douw Aturure Airport in Nabire, Central Papua, and Siboru Airport in Fakfak, West Papua

“We have built a beautiful and cool airport in Papua. Inshaallah is ready to be inaugurated by Mr. President Jokowi tomorrow (Thursday, 23/11),” said the Minister of Transportation in Nabire, Papua, quoting an official statement, Wednesday (11/22/2023).

Minister of Transportation Budi explained, the two airports are the result of collaboration between the central and regional governments to complement each other. With the presence of these two airports, it is expected to further facilitate the mobility of people to and from Papua, both to Nabire and Fakfak

“The local government has provided the land to the central government. Then, the central government carried out the construction of both terminals, runways and other facilities, “he said.

“We ask for the support of the local government to endeavour to market this airport so that passengers and flights are more packed,” said Minister of Transportation Budi.

Siboru Airport was built from 2020 to 2023. Meanwhile, the New Douw Aturure Airport was built from 2020-2022.

Also present at the activity were Director General of Civil Aviation Maria Kristi Endah Murni, Director of Air Transport Putu Eka Cahyadi, acting Governor of West Papua Ali Baham Temongmere, Regional Secretary of Central Papua Province Anwar Harun Damanik, Deputy Regent of Nabire Ismail Djamaluddin, Commander XVIII of Cassowary Major General of the TNI Ilyas Alamsyah, Chief of West Papua Police Irjen. Pol. Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga, and Siboru Airport Architect Andra Matin.

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is currently on a working visit to Papua since Wednesday (22/11/2023). The President conducted the trip to check the stocks of rice in the Bulog Mandala Warehouse Complex, Papua.

Based on the press release, Jokowi and his entourage took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta at around 10:00 WIB, using the Indonesian Presidential Plane.

After a 4-hour flight from Jakarta, Jokowi arrived at Frans Kaisiepo International Airport, Biak Numfor Regency, at around 16.10 WIT.

Upon arrival at the airport, Jokowi was greeted by among others Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Acting Secretary of Papua Province Derek Hegemur, Military Region XVII/Cenderawasih Commander Major General of the TNI Izak Pangemanan, and Chief of Papua Police Irjen Pol. Mathius D. Fakhiri,

After that, Jokowi and his entourage continued their journey to the Bulog Mandala Warehouse Complex to check rice supplies. He also distributed government food aid to a number of beneficiary families (KPM).

During this visit, Jokowi was accompanied by the Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Military Secretary to the President Rear Admiral Hersan, Presidential Guard Commander Maj. Gen. Rafael Granada Baay, Acting Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat M. Yusuf Permana, and Special Staff to the President Billy Mambrasar.
