Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, will open the Sail Teluk Cenderawasih (STC) on 22 November 2023 in Biak. The peak of the event will take place on 22-27 November.
Regent of Biak Numfor Herry Ario Naap said that STC will be opened personally by the President with Ministers, high state officials, as well as the embassies of friendly countries and other invitees in attendance.
“According to the latest information from Jakarta, the President will stay overnight in Biak, then after the opening of STC and participating in various activities, he will proceed to Kaimana for other agendas,” explained Regent Herry in a release on Monday (6/11/2023).
He explained that a number of events will be held by the President during the opening of STC. Some of them are exporting fishery products overseas, launching several activities in Biak, including Fish Companies built by a private company in Water Basis.
“We hope that the President will not only be present to open STC, but will have an impact on future development progress, surely we hope there will be new programs later on upon coming to Biak,” he added.
The STC Papua event, according to the Regent, will take place every five years. It is also hoped that Sail operations will accelerate the development of Biak Numfor Regency and other related districts.
“Other regions have made requests to host Sail, but it is still pending, because the central government would like the STC to last for 5 years in Biak with the hope of there will be visible impact on regional progress, this refers from the Sail’s evaluation result in a number of areas,” he concluded.
He added that the organizing of STC Papua 2023 will not only be part of efforts to promote the region’s potential, but also lead to development programmes being introduced to the area.
Examples of such projects and initiatives include the construction of an advanced fishing village in Samber, a road improvement programme in Biak, and several other projects involving infrastructure.
According to the Regent, STC is helping to create golden opportunities that will accelerate development in Biak Numfor.
He hopes that whoever will become a regional head or leader in the land of the Mambri, can take advantage of opportunities by building communications with the central government to bring in programs and budgets.
“STC has open opportunities and will become a golden bridge to promote Biak, we have to carry out communication and diplomacy to bring more programmes to Biak, and what we are doing at this moment is for the progress of this district that we love and are proud of,” he concluded.
