Armed Criminal Group Attacks Healthcare Workers in Amuma

Members of an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) who attacked healthcare personnel in Amuma District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua was alleged to number tens of people. This was communicated by Head of Public Relations of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Deputy Police Commissioner Bayu Suseno.

“It is true that five healthcare workers who were dispatched to the Amuma District on Tuesday (31/10/2023) to conduct health checks were attacked by an Armed Criminal Group. When committing the attack, the perpetrators were estimated to number 20 individuals,” said Bayu Suseno on Wednesday (1/11/2023) as quoted by Antara. The KKB members, added Bayu, were armed with rifles, pistols, and traditional weapons such as bows and arrows.

The group then assaulted a number of the healthcare personnel. As a result, the victims suffered injuries. Head of the Papua Regional Crisis Centre Team, Danur Widura (39) suffered bruises on his face, back, and a wound on his left ribs. Angganita Mandowen (41), Coordinator of the Papua Regional Crisis Centre Team suffered bruises on her left and right eyes.

A number of team members, such as Sandi Ransar (23), also had a bruised left cheek. Ferdinandus Suweni had bruising on his eyes, back of ears, and right ribs. Adrianus Edwardus (32) suffered a tear on his left hand, left thumb, bruise on his back and face. “The healthcare workers have been evacuated to Jayapura,” he said.
