Ministry of Social Affairs to Distribute Electric Motorcycles to Papuan Regions

The Ministry of Social Affairs will distribute 34 electric dirt bikes (E-Trail) to three regions, namely Puncak Jaya Regency in Central Papua as well as Tolikara Regency and Yahukimo Regency in Highland Papua.

The motorbike assistance is provided to facilitate public transportation access, especially for distributing goods.

“When I arrived, we discussed the reasons behind the high prices of goods in the Papua highland, one of which is because of transportation,” Social Minister Tri Rismaharini told reporters when directly reviewing the E-Trail at the Jayapura Regional IV Papua Social Welfare Education and Training Centre, Wednesday (13/9/2023).

Risma revealed that transportation access in mountainous areas is not as easy as on the beach or even like in other places because the contours of the road are mountainous and then most of them are still not settled, and still in the form of footpaths.

“Now the third reason is that the population in Papua is very scattered, so therefore access to freight transportation is a problem,” said Risma.

Tri Rismaharini gave an example when distributing aid to hungry people in Agandugume and Lambewi, Papua districts some time ago.

“People who were hungry at that time still had to travel on foot for two days and one night to access aid distributed by the government,” said Risma.

“For this reason, the assistance of this E-Trail, designed with the luggage carrier bag on the back of the motorcycle is expected to minimize these problems,” she added

This E-Trail type motorcycle is capable of carrying loads of up to 80 kg and its design prioritizes torque so that it is strong for mountainous terrain. It has a maximum speed of 60 km / h with battery power that allows travel for distances of up to 80 km in a full charge.

Risma added that her side is trying to place one Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) with a power source from solar panels that could be disassembled.

In the future, the number of charging stations will be increased to 10 more points to facilitate access to the E-Trail charging.

During a visit to Jayapura in Papua Province, Social Minister Tri Rismaharini also distributed chicken feed manufacturing equipment assistance to the people the city.

Currently, chicken farmers assisted by the Ministry of Social Affairs are able to supply 90 percent of egg needs in Papua which were originally supplied from Surabaya.

The Minister of Social Affairs also distributed sewing machines, cattle breeds for residents in Tami, grocery kiosks for residents in Skouw, all of which were received by GKI from the Tami estuary class in Papua

Risma hopes that the assistance and training can lead to self-sufficiency for the community there.
