Papua Youth Creative Hub Comes to Yogyakarta for “From Papua for Indonesia Independence Day Celebration” Show

The Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) intercity tour arrived in Yogyakarta, the City of Education, for the “From Papua for Indonesia Independence Day Celebration” show. The performances of Papuan music and art, held to enliven the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, were held at Jogja National Museum (JNM) Bloc, Yogyakarta, Wednesday night (23/8).

In this tour, PYCH collaborated with Papuan artists based in Yogyakarta. A variety of music, dance, and stand-up comedy acts were performed by young Papuans. In addition, there were also donations for book collection for young children and libraries in Papua. This was the second event organised by PYCH outside of Papua, which received a positive response from the people of Yogyakarta.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Music Anak Coment (M.A.C) group, Morde Sawaki, expressed his happiness at the enthusiasm and warm welcome of the people of Yogyakarta.

“It’s cool, I didn’t imagine that it will be this crowded and so lively, the enthusiasm from the event from start to finish was amazing,” Morde said.

Morde said, M.A.C hopes that similar events can continue to be held in other regions in Indonesia to introduce the work and potential of Papuan children in Indonesia.

“If we keep our spirits up, whatever we do, while studying, while making music, there are many Papuan children who make music, keep the spirits high, you can definitely do whatever anywhere,” said Morde.

Complementing the performances from Papuan youth, YouTuber and influencer Thariq Halilintar was also present, which made the event even more lively. In addition to PYCH Music Band, M.A.C, and Thariq Halilintar, other Papuan artists also performed, including Luz Frandz, Boi Soa Soa, Douglas Stand-up Comedy, Yehuda Nowa, The Spirit Mambesak, Rina Sainyakit, Street Evolution Crew, and Ula Modouw.

The event was concluded with a musical performance from Papua and Yospan dancing with the show’s audience. Before they headed to Yogyakarta, PYCH, which is a Papuan youth organization assisted by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), had held an Independence Day event at Lapangan Banteng Park, Jakarta, on Friday (18/8).
