Jonathan Warinussy, Young Student Entrepreneur from Papua

Young Jonathan Warinussy, who was born in Serui and raised in Jayapura, has never dreamt of becoming a civil servant like his parents suggest. Instead, he wishes to be a successful entrepreneur so he can help others.

“By becoming an entrepreneur, I can help other Papuans in Bandung who need money to work here, to help meet their daily needs at least, while also learning about entrepreneurship,” said Jonatan.

Jonathan is majoring in Accounting at the Bandung Communication University and is working on finishing his final thesis. He opened a culinary business in the city where he sells nasi kuning (Indonesian fragrant rice dish cooked with coconut milk and turmeric). In the future, He wants to encourage more Papuans and Eastern Indonesians to become entrepreneurs.

“I have held several entrepreneurship seminars at my shop with my Papuan friends. Some of them are so interested in becoming entrepreneurs that they started opening a juice stand next to my shop,” said Jonathan.

Jonathan invites the youth from Bumi Cenderawasih to participate in developing Papua by becoming entrepreneurs. According to him, this is one of the best steps to further strengthen the pride of the indigenous Papuans.

Billy Mambrasar, Special Staff to the Indonesian President, who is also a successful Papuan entrepreneur himself, met and gave his appreciation to young Papuans who are striving to become entrepreneurs, such as Jonathan Warinussy.

“It is time for the Papuan children to prove that we too can be successful, especially in the field of entrepreneurship,” said Billy who is also a social activist.

“The richest people in Indonesia and even the world are entrepreneurs. We can make Papua better and more prosperous by getting into the entrepreneurial sector,” said Billy Mambrasar.
